Pointe Dance Classes in Toronto for Kids, Teens & Adults

Where Strength Meets Grace – at J’Danse Studio, Scarborough

Pointe ballet is one of the most demanding and rewarding milestones a dancer can reach — and at J’Danse Studio in Scarborough, we’ve been guiding dancers through this journey safely for over 15 seasons. Our structured pointe program in Toronto takes students step by step from pre-pointe foundations to full en pointe work, always under expert supervision. Serving the GTA since 2010, we combine technical excellence with a supportive environment that lets every dancer progress at the right pace.

Why Choose Pointe Dance?

J’Danse Studio has been one of Scarborough’s most trusted dance schools for over 15 seasons. Our pointe program is built around safety first — every student progresses through a structured pathway that ensures their body is physically and technically ready before going en pointe.

Our class sizes are intentionally small so every dancer receives individual attention and meaningful corrections. Our instructors bring deep expertise in ballet technique and understand how to develop both the strength and artistry that pointe work demands.

Whether you’re a parent looking for a safe, properly supervised pointe program in Toronto, or a teen ready to take your ballet to the next level, J’Danse Studio offers a free trial so you can experience the difference before you commit.

Benefits of Pointe Ballet

Whether your dancer dreams of performing on stage or simply wants to challenge themselves, pointe ballet is an empowering step forward.

What to Wear to Pointe Class

Pre-pointe students wear ballet-appropriate dancewear — a leotard, tights, and soft ballet slippers. No pointe shoes are needed for pre-pointe level. Once approved for Intro to Pointe, students require professionally fitted pointe shoes — never purchased online without fitting. We strongly recommend visiting a certified dancewear retailer and we’re happy to guide families through this process. For full details on attire by age and level, see our Dress Code page.

FAQs

What age do kids start pointe?

Most students begin our Pre-Pointe class between ages 9 and 12. Going en pointe earlier than this carries real injury risk — growth plates in the foot aren’t fully developed until around age 12, so we take readiness seriously. Before any student moves into Intro to Pointe, they must be assessed by their ballet instructor for sufficient strength, alignment, and technical control. Age alone is never the deciding factor.

Yes — at least 2 years of consistent ballet training is required before joining Intro to Pointe, and students must receive instructor approval before going en pointe. This isn’t just a rule: pointe work places significant stress on ankles, knees, and the lower back, and a dancer without the proper foundation is at real risk of injury. Students who aren’t quite ready can enroll in our Pre-Pointe class (ages 9–12), which builds the strength and technique needed to progress safely.

Yes! Our Elite Pointe classes include options for older teens and adult dancers with sufficient ballet background. We welcome adults returning to dance or continuing their journey.

Yes — we offer a free trial class for new students across all our programs, and for pointe specifically we recommend booking a pointe readiness assessment before your first class. This is a short evaluation with one of our instructors where we check ankle strength, alignment, core stability, and ballet technique. It takes the guesswork out of which level is right for your dancer and ensures they start in the safest environment. Contact us at (416) 830-5601 or register online to book.

Adults who want to begin pointe need a minimum of 2–3 years of prior ballet training and a readiness assessment with one of our instructors. Unlike children, adults don’t need to wait for bone development — the main requirements are ankle strength, core stability, and correct alignment. If you’ve danced before and are returning to ballet, we’ll assess where you are and recommend whether to start with Pre-Pointe or Intro to Pointe. Contact us to book your assessment.

Yes — pointe shoes must be professionally fitted in person, never purchased online without a fitting. Ill-fitting pointe shoes are one of the most common causes of injury. We recommend visiting a certified dancewear retailer and are happy to guide families through what to look for. A proper fit accounts for foot shape, arch flexibility, toe length, and box width — all of which affect how safely a dancer works en pointe.

Yes — all new students are welcome to book a free trial class before committing to a full session. For pointe specifically, we also recommend pairing this with a brief readiness assessment so we can match your dancer to the right level from day one.
